El Panal is produced at Finca La Bolsa in La Libertad, Huehuetenango, a farm established by Dr Jorge Vides in 1958 and now stewarded by his daughter, Maria Elena Vides. What began as a passion project alongside Jorge’s medical career has grown into one of Guatemala’s most respected coffee estates. Grown between 1400–1650 MASL, this lot combines Bourbon and Caturra varieties, showcasing the warmth, sweetness and fruit character that have become hallmarks of La Bolsa coffees.
Named after the Spanish word for “beehive,” El Panal reflects the Vides family’s meticulous approach to natural processing. Ripe cherries undergo a controlled 36-hour fermentation before drying slowly on patios for 16-25 days, allowing fruit sugars and complexity to fully develop. The Vides family oversees every stage of production and export, ensuring exceptional consistency from harvest to shipment. After nine years of partnership, we continue to be impressed by their commitment to quality, innovation and long-term sustainability.
