Enter our Guatemala La Danta, another great coffee from Finca El Rincón. Steeped in history, just like the family responsible for its production, this coffee is named after one of the largest Mayan pyramids: La Danta Temple of El Mirador.
We paid 47% above the Fairtrade price for this coffee. Learn why here.
Jorge Vides was a doctor and patriarch of the Vides family. In 1958, he bought a piece of land, surrounded by forests, in La Libertad, Huehuetenango. It was here that he founded his family’s very first coffee farm, Finca La Bolsa, planting it out with beautiful Bourbon and Caturra varietals protected by the warm, dry winds from the Tehuantepec plain. Ever since, the wonderful Vides family has been a force to be reckoned with in speciality Guatemalan coffee production. Milling, grading, bagging and preparing their own coffee for export, the family receives the entire FOB price for their product.
Back in 2002, and with little knowledge of just how good their coffee was, general manager Maria Vides and her son Renardo Ovalle decided to submit their coffee to the prestigious Cup of Excellence competition. They did incredibly well, placing second. This international vote of confidence spurred the Vides family into action. They now own multiple coffee farms, all of which produce the same, beautiful quality of coffee for which they are widely known.
With a staunch commitment to sustainability, the Vides family integrates environmentally friendly practices and supports local communities by building schools and sharing their rich agronomy knowledge. We’re constantly impressed by just how much Maria and her family invest back into their community.
Rumble is stoked to have La Danta back in 2024, a special year that marks our sixth purchase of this lot and a sixth year working with the Vides family. This awesome coffee holds a special place in our hearts.
