Rumble's latest single origin for filter, the delightful Ethiopia Ayla Washed Coffee! You can expect a soft, floral aroma with jammy pineapple and subtle hints of black tea.
AYLA WASHING STATION
This washed lot hails from Ayla, one of twenty washing stations owned and managed by the family-owned Testi Coffee, founded by Mr Faysel A. Yonis. A fun fact: the washing station is named after one of Mr. Faysel’s beloved nieces.

Ayla is a privately-owned washing station located in Bombe, a village in the Bensa woreda (administrative district) of Ethiopia’s Sidama zone.
Sitting at 1,950 MASL, Ayla produces exceptional washed and natural processed lots using the nearby Bonora river as its main source of fresh water. During harvest, freshly picked coffee cherry is delivered daily by some 700-800 independent outgrowers.

The majority of families who contributed to this lot farm organically on tiny plots of land averaging just 1-2 hectares in size. Coffee is their main cash crop and grows alongside food crops of corn, grain and bananas under the shade of native Birbira, Wanza, and Acacia trees.

In this special region, the average elevation of farms is very high – around 1950–2150 MASL. This, combined with the region’s cool temperatures, provides an ideal environment for the slow ripening of coffee cherries, leading to denser beans and a sweeter, more complex cup profile. Delicious.

PRICING EXPLAINED
*This is the FOB (Free On Board) price: the price paid to the exporter before shipping, and which does not include shipping costs, weight loss (around 17%), storage and other charges. Ultimately, the FOB price represents the $ figure that stays in the coffee's country of origin, benefiting its producer, community, and beyond.
^This is the 'raw' price paid directly to the producer, and paid in the local currency for parchment coffee. The coffee is then milled and sorted before being placed in bags, ready for shipping.
